God wants to be in a relationship with all of us including you. He longs to shower us with his unconditional love. But only if we let him in. See, God is a gentleman and he will not force himself on us neither will he force his will on us.
God loves us so much that He sent His one-only son to die for you and me and for the whole entire world. That’s how great God’s love is for us. He already paid the price for you and me.
To maintain a relationship with Christ you need to nurture it. With any relationship communication is the key to get the relationship going. Without communication both partners start to drift away and lose interest or connection. Nevertheless, communication is what keeps the sparks going.
You might think to yourself but how do I talk to God? If I talk to Him will he listen to me? Will he answer me when I pray to him? The answer to all these questions is yes. God listens to us when we pray, he hears every request, and every concern that we bring to him.
He answers them as well in his own way, maybe not what we are hoping for, but he does answer our prayer. God gives us what we need, not necessarily what we want. He knows what is best for us and has our best interest at heart. We just need to trust Him, trust that He’s looking out for us.
In the previous blog entry, we talked about how you can build a personal relationship with God. After you build a relationship you need to know how to nurture it to grow. Just like any ordinary relationship. So you begin to build this relationship between you and God. How do you plan to maintain the relationship and deepen your intimacy with Him?
9 Powerful Ways to Deepen Your Relationship with God Starting Today
- Read the Bible: Reading the Bible daily is very important because that’s the main way God speaks to us. God uses His word to speak to us daily. It is through His word He gives us information on how to live our lives to please Him.
God wants us to live a holy and blameless life, He chose us for this very reason. Therefore, when we open up God’s word to read; we will know what God expects of us. We will know His good and perfect will for our lives.
- Prayer: Seek God for guidance and strength. Prayer is our life line with God. When we communicate with God daily we are fostering a deep relationship with the Lord. We have fellowship with God through daily prayer. Prayer is very vital in order to keep the relationship going.
- Praise & Worship: Show God gratitude and thankfulness. Tell Him how wonderful and mighty He is. Praise Him by telling Him how He’s faithful, kind, merciful etc. Put some worship songs on and get your praise on. Let Him know how much you truly love and appreciate having Him in your life.
- Serving Others: God wants us to develop an attitude of service. Jesus came to serve not to be served. We must do the same and serve one another out of love.
- Obey His Command: What you read in the Bible put into practice in your day-to-day life. Become a doer when you read the Bible and not just a hearer of God’s word. “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Matthew 7: 24
- Developing Godly Character: Developing godly characters such as Humility, Integrity, Faithfulness and Self-control is crucial as God’s children. these characters are great to have and allow the Lord to use us in a mighty way for His Kingdom.
- Pursuing Holiness: God wants us to live holy lives unto him. This includes no partying, no sex before marriage, and no making rude jokes etc… Let’s put it this way, holiness is doing the opposite for all of what I just listed. God said “to be holy for I am holy” 1 Peter 1: 16
- Bearing Fruit: You bear fruit when you cut out sin from your life. Every form of sin brings offense to God, big sin or little sin. Sin is sin whether big or small. You do this through Repentance, repenting is when you forsake your ungodly lifestyle completely and start obeying the word of God. This is how you will bear much fruit.
- Fasting: Fasting draws you closer to God, and eliminates ungodly bad habits from your life. There are many benefits when we fast. However, the main reason behind fasting is to draw closer to God.
