How To Know God’s Voice

Have you ever wondered if God is truly present in your life? Maybe you’ve prayed for answers but felt like silence was the only response. I’ve been there too. For years, I longed to experience God in a personal and undeniable way.

Little did I know, He was working behind the scenes, revealing Himself in ways I never expected. In this blog, I’ll share my testimony—a journey filled with moments of doubt, hope, and ultimately, the undeniable presence of God. I invite you to read to the end, where I’ll reveal the key lessons I’ve learned about recognizing His voice and presence in your own life.

The Mystery of God’s Presence: Different Ways He Speaks to Us Today

1. God speaks to us through the Bible

Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” the Bible, is one way God speaks to us.

The Bible reveals God’s love, promises, expectations, desires and his plan for us. His definitions of sin, and warns us against the consequences of our disobedience.

Throughout the Bible, we see that God is love. We see that He is personally interested in each of us. He is our Protector, Teacher, Savior, Shepherd, counselor, Friend, provider, healer, comforter, and Hope for eternal life.

2. God reveals himself to us through the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the voice or conscience of the Father and the Son living in us. When we listen to the Holy Spirit’s promptings, we will most certainly know God’s desires and intentions for us.

3. God speaks to us through Prophets and uses other people to speak to us.

Just like God used Moses to reveal himself to the Israelites, God often uses other people and situations to reveal himself to us.

4. God speaks to us through dreams and visions.

God uses dreams and visions to tell of the future, and reveal his plans on purpose for our lives. He also uses dreams to warn us and stairs us away from sin.

Job 33:15-18 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber in their beds, he may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings, to turn them away from wrongdoing and keep them from pride, to preserve them from the pit, their lives from perishing by the sword.

When God Speaks: My Testimony of How He Revealed Himself to Me

I used to be a fornicator, I was living with my ex. Fiancé at the time. I was drawing closer and closer to God. One day I was on the bus going to work, and I came across this end-time video. I didn’t know what came over me at the time, but the message that was on that video touched my heart and pierced my soul.

I began to wept like a baby on the bus. Many passengers were on the bus but it didn’t matter to me. That’s the very first time I got convicted of my fornication. God used that video to catch my attention. He knows everything about us and he knows exactly what to use to get to me. Unfortunately, I did not change overnight. He warned me on many occasions to stop fornicating, but I told him that I didn’t know how and that I was afraid that if I left my ex-fiance I couldn’t take care of myself and my baby.

So, what held me back from coming out of fornication? Fear, fear is the number 1 biggest thing that Satan uses against us. When you read the Bible, how many times do you come across the word fear? Words like ‘do not be afraid,’ and ‘fear not’, fear occur over three hundred times in the Bible. However, fear kept me from pleasing God all those years. My second biggest encounter with God was when he used a preacher to speak to me. I love to watch preachers on TV.

Thus, one evening when I came home from work I sat down on the couch, turned on the television and began to watch The 700 Club. As I was watching the program the pastor on the television said “There is this person, the Lord told me that you need to stop what you are doing now!” He said, “The Lord has been telling you to stop for a while now, and you are still doing it.”  I knew it was me, I got up, cried and repented of my sins. Unfortunately, I still didn’t change, after a few days, I went right back to my old lifestyle.

Then around 2014 in the summer I experienced something very strange that I never experienced before. I was terrified, as I was walking towards the bus stop on July 2014. I felt a strong fear come over me, the type of fear that kept me asking. If Jesus was to come back today would I be with him? I answered that question very honestly, and my answer was no. During that day fear was just waking me. For the whole day, I felt fearful, fearful of where I was going to spend eternity.

The fear wouldn’t leave. However, on my lunch break that day I decided to pray. I was very overwhelmed and couldn’t pray out loud, so I grabbed a piece of paper and pen and began to write out my prayers to God. That day I prayed with my whole heart with tears coming down from my cheeks. I told God everything, I didn’t keep anything back.  I mean, I was raw and honest with God. When I finished praying I felt much better and relieved. However, that night I went to bed and had a dream. At the time I was still engaged to my ex-fiancé.

In the dream, I saw myself wearing the same wedding gown that I had purchased in real life. Behind me standing in the dream was my ex-fiancé. However, as I was getting ready for my wedding I noticed that the back of my train was very dirty. I began to freak out! I said to my ex-fiancé in the dream, “My train is dirty, I can’t go to my wedding like this.” So, I picked up the train and began to clean it off.

After I cleaned the dirt from my train, I noticed while I was getting ready again I saw some small fine dots that looked like holes all over my train. I turned to my ex-fiancé again and said “Go get me a needle and thread so I can sew up this dress because I can’t go to my wedding looking like this.” Then I awoke from the dream. When I got up from my dream instantly I knew what it meant.

The Lord was telling me that he’s not coming back for a bride that is filled with spots, wrinkles, and blemishes. I knew that I had spots, wrinkles, and blemishes. That was my last wake-up call to get out of fornication. This time I took action. I did what I should have done years ago.

I gave up my relationship for some guy who didn’t even believe in God or care to believe in God. I traded my relationship with him For God. And now I’m happy as can be. Therefore, because I have traded my relationship with him for God, God saw my faith and he blessed me with a wonderful husband in return. This is my experience with God.

How about you? What will you give up for God? Leave a comment in the box below and let me know, so I can pray for you.

Thus, does God reveal Himself to people? The answer is YES He does. The more we draw closer to God, the more he will reveal Himself to us through Dreams, His Word, Other people, Numbers, Colors, weather, and even songs. God uses everything that He creates to speak to us.

As the scripture says in James 4:8 Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Therefore, if you want God to reveal himself to you, how about start reading the Bible every day and pray.  Then you will see a difference in your relationship with God. But it first starts with you picking up the Bible and showing God some interest.

In conclusion, God uses everything that he creates to speak to us and get our attention. We just have to put everything on pause in order to hear his voice. The world is filled with so much distractions that if God want to speak you more than likely he would not be able to get through to you. God speaks in a still small voice therefore, get away from the noise and distractions around you and just listen.
