Have you ever wondered what it truly means to find your identity in Christ?
In a world that constantly tries to define us by our past, accomplishments, or mistakes, understanding who we are in Him can feel like a mystery.
This post will take you on a journey to uncover the powerful truth about your identity in Christ, revealing why it’s essential for your confidence, your purpose, and your peace. If you’ve ever felt lost or unsure of your place in the world, reading to the end might just be the turning point you need.
Curious to see what God has to say about who you really are? Let’s dive in!
How wonderful to know that we are blessed beyond measure. The book of Ephesians 1:3 states that Christ has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms. It is amazing to know how much God has poured out his love upon us.
God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.
God in His mercy and kindness bought our freedom by allowing Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. This was His plan for salvation in the beginning. God is rich in kindness and grace. God adopted us into His family and identified us as His own by giving us His Holy Spirit.
Has someone ever walked up to you and asked who you are? And your reply was:
I am a _______ (fill in the blank).
Instead of telling them who you are, you give them what you do for a living. You associate who you are with what you do. We are all guilty of that.
I recently discovered that they are both different. They both have different roles to play in each of our lives. One is telling someone what you do for a living and the other one is stating who you are as a person; an individual — that’s called your identity.
We are very prideful people. We love to show off our status by telling what we do. The question is not asking what you do for a living. The question was who you are as an individual. And so we make the mistake of going around telling people:
I am —————- (fill in the blank).
I believe you get where I am going with this.
As people, we do have an identity, that’s right. Our identity tells us who we are.
Have you ever travelled before and the receptionist asked for your passport? Yes! Why do you think they asked for this important document when travelling abroad?
Your passport holds your identity. It tells them who you are — your name, age, date of birth, the color of your eyes, etc. That is your identity. They ask for this special piece of ID — which stands for identification — to make sure it’s you and no one else
Well, I have great news for you: Our identity is found in Christ.
The Bible tells us in Ephesians 1:3–14 who we are in Christ.
As Believers, We Are:
- You are God’s Child / Children
- You are Forgiven
- You are Blameless
- You are Holy
- You are Chosen
- You are Adopted into God’s Family
- You are Royalty – Kings & Priests
- You are Sons & Daughters of God
- You are Sealed with the Holy Spirit
- You are Seated with Christ Jesus
- You are Saved by the Blood of Jesus
- You are the Righteousness of God – God declared us righteous
Let these truths anchor your soul. Your true identity is not in your job title, past mistakes, or personal achievements — it’s in the unshakeable, eternal reality of who you are in Christ.
