The battle for our attention – Have you ever felt bombarded by the world’s ideology and culture, wanting you to dress, think, talk, live, and act in a way that aligns with their norms?
It’s as if the world has designed an entire system to pull us away from our God-given purpose.
From flashy movies and shows to never-ending ads, secular music, and social media, we’re surrounded.
Every hour. Every day. All year long
Distraction isn’t a random occurrence—it’s a spiritual strategy.
From the moment we open our eyes each morning to the time we lay our heads at night, the noise is nonstop.
But God has given us a way to stay anchored.
📖 Devotional Scripture
“Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.
For the joy set before him, he endured the cross, scorning its shame,
and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
— Hebrews 12:2
Hebrews 12:2 encourages us to fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. See, Jesus knew we would get distracted in this world and by worldly things. It doesn’t take anything these days to get us distracted and off track from what God has called us to do. It is so easy to get distracted with the cares of this world, worry infiltrates our minds, robs us from our peace and sucks the joy out of us.
However, when we take our eyes off our problems and place them in the hands of Christ, He takes care of us. Jesus said, “Come unto me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest”. Matthew 11:28-30 Jesus also tells us to “cast our cares on Him, for He cares for us.” 1 Peter 5:7
It is when we fix our eyes on Jesus that we will be liberated and experience true peace that we never had before.
As God’s children, He has set before us a race to win. God wants us to overcome our flesh; He wants us to conquer the flesh and win the race towards heaven. He expects us to persevere and never give up the fight, even when the road gets difficult.
Jesus said “if we want to be His followers, we must take up our cross daily and follow Him.” What does that mean? Well a cross symbolizes sacrifices. Giving up oneself completely, a total surrender to the Lordship of Christ.
In Romans 12:1 Paul talks about offering up our bodies as a living sacrifice, which is our reasonable and proper service to unto God.
Living Sacrifices we must offer up unto God:
Worship – God deserves our praise and worship, since He is our creator. He alone is worthy of all our praise. There is no other God besides Him,
He is Mighty, Sovereign and omnipotent. He is our spiritual Father, Provider, Savior, Protector, Healer, Defender, counselor and a friend that sticks closer than a brother. He is the KING of all kings and the LORD of all lords.
He is coming back not as baby Jesus, but coming back as a powerful KING to execute judgment upon the earth for all those who reject Him and the wonderful gift of salvation that He offered.
Our thought – We must have the mind of Christ, not accepting every thought that comes in our minds. But as 2 Corinthians 10:5 says, “we must take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ”. ( but let this mind of Christ be in you Philippians 2: 5
Living holy lives unto God – Our speech must reflect Christ, we should use our lips to edify and build up each other in Christ.
Not tearing each other down and living in strife with each other, Jesus said by this the world will know that you are my disciples If you LOVE one another. However love is the greatest commandment in the bible and it upholds the whole entire law.
Entertainment that we watch on television – Our eyes must not look upon any impure and evil things. What we constantly feed our minds on will ultimately be our lifestyle. As scripture said what we reap we will sow. Galatians 6:7-9
However, if we sow to our flesh we will reap condemnation and eternal separation from God, if we sow to our spirit we will reap eternal life. If you want to know what the spirit is consist of read Galatians 5:22-23 it will list all the fruit of the spirit.
What we use our hands to do – Our hands are there to help people who are in need and show our good deeds.
Where we go – Our feet are made to spread the gospel of Christ. Be bold for Christ in this last hour, let your light shine and share the gospel with some you know that don’t know Jesus.
There is a battle to be won, and that battle that we are fighting against is our fleshly desire that call sin. And we know that Satan is the one who lured us to sin.
Three things we need to overcome in this world:
The lust of the flesh – This has to do with sex, gluttony, addictions, jealousy, etc.
Lust of the eyes – This consists of materialism, wealth, power, status, fame, etc…
Pride of life – This one is manifested through worldly achievements, boasting about one’s accomplishments, placing oneself above others, etc…
When we master these three things, we are more equipped to defeat the enemy’s schemes over our lives.
How to overcome worldly Distractions and Stay Rooted in Christ:
Read the Bible – Reading God’s word will nourish our spirit man. The more time we spend reading God’s word the more we are feeding our spirit. God’s word is our spiritual food that nourishes our souls and keeps us away from sinning.
The more time we spend in God’s presence the more we are becoming like Jesus and the less we will sin. The less time we spend in God’s presence the more we will become like the world, and the more appetite we will have for sin.
Pray without ceasing – Be in communion with God every day. Talking with God daily builds your faith and deepens your relationship with Him. Nevertheless, prayer is powerful. The Bible say a prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16
Attend church service –
Fast to draw closer to God – When we fast it draws God’s attention. Fasting is one way that we can draw closer to God and helps us become humble before God.
Fasting is able to break bad habits such as: habitual sins, demonic strongholds, spiritual bondage, healing, deliverance and so much more from your life. However, the most important reason why we must fast is to draw closer and connect with God.
Attend Bible Study – Study to show yourself approved 2 Timothy 2:15 ( so you are not able to get deceived by false teachers and prophets especially as we are living in the last days. Jesus talks a lot about being deceived right before he comes back in Matthew 24.
He said “many false prophets and teachers will rise in the last days deceiving many even if possible the ELECT. Therefore, as followers of Christ we need to be rooted and grounded in His Word.
We need to know what God’s word says so that we won’t toss back and forth with false doctrine by false prophets and teachers. We must pray and ask God to give us a discerning spirit so that we are able to detect truth from error.
Watch Godly sermons and read Godly books to acquire more knowledge about God. 2 Peter 3:18 But grow in the Grace and Knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ
As we develop spiritual discipline in spending time in God’s presence and seeking his face daily, He will use our spiritual discipline to help mature and equip us to do good works for His Kingdom.
Sing unto God a new song – Psalm 100 says “make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all people. Serve the LORD with gladness; come before his presence with singing.”
Praise and worship God with new songs. Sing praises unto His name. The Lord inhabits the praises of his people. Psalms 22:3
In conclusion, in order for us to run this race that Christ Jesus has set before us. We must not get distracted and pulled in by the world system. We need to continually getting rid of sin out of our lives that will hinder us from winning the race. And we must never give up, but run this race with perseverance. The ultimate goal here to achieve is eternal life spend with God in heaven.
